Don’t Be A Statistic: Leveraging ODLC for Your Sustainability

by

A recent study published in JAMA Network posed the question:

“What are the experiences of leaders in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at US academic health centers?”

Through focus group interviews of senior-level DEI leaders across the country, they identied four consistent themes of complexity that jeopardized the effectiveness and sustainability of these leadership roles.

Sound familiar?

This study hits home. In 2020, the Orthopaedic Diversity Leadership Consortium was formed to specifically address such areas of opportunities for health equity, diveristy, and inclusion leaders. Indeed, it has been very encouraging to see the wins play out as many of our members continue to thrive in local and national environments.

Nevertheless, we are all at risk for experiencing the challenges of these roles, despite the successes we may have had along the way.

To ensure that you don’t fall into any of these categories of frustration and stagnation (or least have a softer landing if you do), we encourage you to stay closely engaged with ODLC and leverage the resources we have created to support you and your organization throughout this complex journey.

Here is a quick reference table to jumpstart your engagement:
